Yes, the plucking action is based on the asian design, but the asian design was ripped off from the american pioneers - Pick Wick, if I'm not mistaken.

So they all basically work the same. The main variables are RPMs of the turntable, density of rubber in the fingers, size of tub and method of drive (belt or direct).

The asians added the great innovation of the feather chute. All older American models are open bottomed resulting in a sloppy atoll of feathers growing up from the floor.
